The author had me at "The Wild Boyz deserve to be remembered"- whom were so little known yet should have been much bigger. Finally a hair metal book that expands focus beyond the top 20 (Cinderella, Crue, Ratt etc.).I disagree with some of the "must have" albums but give the author credit for putting up some lesser known stuff. Use the authors lists as a tool to explore lesser known bands and eventually you can develop your own list. But definitely expand amongst the big boys- check out Wild Boyz, Geisha, Hard Knoxx, Paradise (do or die), Rock Candy, Zodiac Mindwarp, etc. lots of great material out there.
I was really hoping to like this book. It's, unfortunately, complete garbage. The author(s)? (uses 'we' a lot, leading me to believe more than one person is responsible for this sin against literature There are typos, wrong titles or songs and other things. But, the main problem is, it's a book of lists of the author's opinion. If you care about this person's favorite ballads, then have at this book. Author(s) use every cliche and seem to embrace the "hair metal" term, which many people consider sophomoric. I read a lot of poorly written books, which says something about my taste in rock and roll, but this is easily the worst. I learned absolutely nothing from reading this. Well, that's a lie, there are lists of obscure songs that maybe are worth a damn, but I have zero faith in the authors to spend money on anything he/they recommend. Again, what a great idea that was botched like a Spinal Tap drum solo.
As a fan of 80's and 90's Hard Rock, I am enjoying this book immensely. While we, as fans, don't always agree on "Top 10" or "Top 100" lists, it's always fun to hear what other people enjoy or don't enjoy. That is the best part of the debate, right? I was also turned on to new songs/bands that I had not heard of. Extensive interviews, information and history on the "hair metal" genre make this book a must-have. Thank you Sleaze Roxx for turning me onto this gem!
Excellent source for those of us who grew up in the 80’s and enjoyed this music! Great tribute for fans everywhere. To enjoy and look bad to those fun times. I would recommend this to my friends!

Tons and tons of information, great interviews too
I'm pretty well-versed in the world of melodic hard rock ('hair metal' to some) and I can say that this author is definitely a true fan and has a definite love and affinity for the bands mentioned in the book. And there are A LOT of bands mentioned. The book touches on the popular groups such as Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Warrant but also gets into some of the lesser-known acts like Junkyard, Wildside, Sweet FA, DAD, Shameless etc. The author is a REALLY big fan of DAD! And of course the 'mid-level' bands like LA Guns, Babylon AD, Faster Pussycat also get attention. Even some really obscure unsigned sunset strip groups as well. The book is well researched, and has different sections...it begins with the beginnings of the genre...tracking the popular groups and song and albums until 2018. It also has HUGE lists of the top songs/albums/groups as well. I would say that almost every band in the melodic rock/hair metal genre gets some ink. I didn't see any Lixx Array or Slam Alley...but they might even be too obscure! The author has done the homework though. It's a cool book, and the interviews are fresh and fun. The author is having a good time, it's not a criticism book, it's more of a celebration. I think anyone who likes this genre of music will dig it. Especially if you're a hardcore fan and collector like me. But also even if you're just getting into the scene. Euro and Canadian bands get some love too.
As a fan of this musical era I have to give the author props for covering the subject but I take issue with a number of things about this book. First off, despite the author's belabored pleading to the contrary, the term "hair metal" IS pejorative and marginalizes an entire genre of incredibly talented musicians, period. The first half of this book is the author espousing his personal and therefore worthless opinions on the "best" albums, bands, guitarists etc. from the 80s. It's quite sophomoric and dull. Every fan of 80s metal has their own opinions and so I fail to see the point in the author trying to present his as somehow authoritative on the subject. The interviews are OK. He asks many of the same questions in each interview which comes off as pretty uninspired or maybe just lazy. I'm not sure what his obsession with Axl Rose's Chinese Democracy album is. Lastly, he really needs to hire an editor to correct the many spelling and grammar errors in this book.
