Great reference volume put together by the people over at Eaglemoss collections. Most of the info in the volume was originally published in the magazines accompanying their Starship collection. I do not have the room to collect all the ships, but love having all this information. Looking forward to the other volumes!!
This first volume in the Star Trek Shipyards series of hardcover "coffee table sized" books is a welcome addition to my sci-fi reference library, that prior to now was dominated by hardcover Star Wars reference books. Star Trek has been in need of this for some time. Based on the official Star Trek Starships Collection magazines by Eaglemoss, the Star Trek Shipyards books are packed with full color photos, screen captures from the TV shows and movies, and best of all, fully rendered CGI views of pretty much every Starfleet ship ever seen onscreen. This includes rarely seen background ships and the new ships from Discovery, too. For about 20 bucks, the price is fantastic. My only complaint is that the two-page orthographic schematic for each ship breaks over two pages, so some of the image is lost in the crease, or fold, of the book. I would have preferred if they had printed the schematic on a single page, perhaps the top-view of the ship on one page and the side-view on the next page. For many ships it is not a problem, but others, like my all-time favorite ship, the Miranda Class, the fold is exactly on the bridge module, which is almost entirely hidden in the crease between the pages. Aside from this complaint, I'm extremely happy with this first volume and I plan on collecting the rest when they are released.
I actually like the book a lot. It’s ideal for people like me who’d like to be a subscriber but lack the space/money to fully commit to it. I generally pick and choose carefully which issues I pick up since some issues just don’t interest me as much as the capital ships (Baxial and Romulan drone I’m looking at you..). However as nice as the book is, I have noticed at least one mis-labeling: it shows an aft torpedo launcher between the impulse engines on Excelsior. As far as cannon goes, I believe the aft launchers are on the secondary hull below the the shuttle bay. So make of that what you will since I don’t have the original issue to compare to. I haven’t noticed anything else off in the book as of yet. Overall, with the addition of the extra material, like timelines and size comparison charts, I think it’s a pretty good deal at the current price.
Great product could be a bit bigger font for us older people to see better....
basically this is a compendium of the individual “magazines†which accompanied each Eaglemoss/HeroCollector Trek ship. if you already have those magazines, you may still enjoy this book as a single hardcover edition is infinitely better than searching for and thumbing through individual magazines.
This is the kind of book I’ve been looking for for years. It’s great having all these ships represented in one place. Okay, two places once volume two is released. The pictures are stunning and the in universe info on all the ships is awesome. This is a must have for any fan of star trek.
I love the time line, sizing chart, and info about some of the ships I don't have in the collection, however some of the included material seems a little bit less complicated than the magazine that comes with the modles, EG OV-165 pictured (magazine top book bottom)
Spectacular images of beautiful starships of the Star Trek Universe! Great coffee-table book! Recommended for fans!
